Education and Qualification: Frank Jewett has committed his life to public service and opening doors of opportunity for young people in our community. This, combined with his business and educational experience, makes him qualified to help college officials expand educational excellence to insure quality education for our students and community.

Frank Jewett is qualified through his demonstrated leadership in the following areas. Appointment to the Board of Trustees for West Valley-Mission Community College District July 2000, Instructor Heald Business College, West Valley College Success program-Business Community Mentor, Principal for a Day Program-SJ / SV Chamber of Commerce-Committee member, Junior Achievement of Santa Clara County-Board of Directors, Santa Clara County Human Relations Award recipient for Outstanding Community Service, Co-Host & Producer of the award-winning Issues Today television program, former Assistant Director SJSU Dept. Relations with Schools and colleges.

Statement of CHRIS CONSTANTIN, Candidate for

West Valley-Mission Community College District

Occupation: Incumbent / Small Businessman

Education and Qualifications: Chris Constantin is running for re-election because he wants to continue his work in developing innovative public/private partnerships that increase the quality of our programs without raising college fees. Constantin has delivered on the promises he made during his first term and would appreciate your vote so that he may complete his work. If re-elected, Chris Constantin will expand financial aid resources to include middle class students, offer more online classes so students can take classes at their convenience, and build dorms so students have an affordable place to live.

Chris Constantin’s current and past experience includes serving as President of the West Valley-Mission Community College District Board of Trustees, and as a member of both the San Jose State University Athletics Board and the Instruction and Student Affairs Committee. During Chris Constantin’s term, the board completed construction of the Mission College Hi-tech Student Center and Gymnasium Buildings, increased grants and donations to $12.5 million per year, balanced the budget and established reserves to cover emergencies.

Chris Constantin’s endorsements include: Assemblyman Jim Cunneen, Assemblywoman Elaine Kontominas Alquist, the Mayors of Los Gatos and Monte Sereno, and San Jose Councilwoman Pat Dando.

Educación y Calificaciones: Chris Constantin se postula para reelección porque quiere continuar su trabajo de desarrollar alianzas inovadoras en los sectores público y privado que mejoren la calidad de nuestros programas sin aumentar las cuotas de matrícula. El señor Constantin ha cumplido las promesas que hizo durante su primer término y agradecerá su voto para que pueda poner fin a su trabajo.

Si lo vuelven a elegir, Chris Constantin ampliará los recursos de asistencia económica para incluir a los alumnos de la clase media, ofrecerá más clases por medios electrónicos para que los alumnos puedan estudiar a su propia conveniencia, y mandará construir dormitorios que permitan que los alumnos tengan un lugar económico para vivir.

Statement of JOY ATKINS, Candidate for

Governing Board Member, Trustee Area 3

West Valley-Mission Community College District

Occupation: Incumbent

Education and Qualifications: As a West Valley College graduate, I fully understand student needs. I have 30 years history in the District. I was employed full-time for 16 years, part-time for 2 years and am in my 12th year as Trustee. I know where we were and how far we’ve come, and want to be a part of our continuing progress. Trustees serve as Directors of the Mission-West Valley Land Corporation, which has leased District land near Mission College that is generating an annual income stream of several million dollars. It is being used to complete Mission College, make improvements at the aging West Valley College Campus, and provide innovation funds to benefit student programs. The District now has the best administrative team, Chancellor and College Presidents I’ve ever seen. They need a supportive Board that will provide for the latest technology to give our students the best education possible. I believe my qualifications and experience will help achieve that, and I will appreciate your vote for my re-election.

 

 

 

Statement of JOE PANDIT, Candidate for

Governing Board Member, Trustee Area 3

West Valley-Mission Community College District

Occupation: Engineer/Business Consultant Age: 63

Education and Qualification: I have lived in Silicon Valley for 31 years and have witnessed the explosive growth in technology occurring here. As your representative, my first priority will be to ensure that West Valley and Mission Colleges continue to offer a curricula that will enhance the technological growth of this valley, provide balanced educational opportunities for the students of all ages and prepare our residents for real world careers.

My second priority will be to improve the District’s fiscal responsibility. I will also encourage community input in District matters and support improved relationships with our High School Districts. I will seek additional funding from the State and from private sources and aggressively push for completion of Mission College facilities.

I hold two Masters degrees in engineering and possess community college teaching credentials. I have also served as your elected representative for over 10 years on the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board, as a University Lecturer at three universities and as an engineer/consultant for over 20 years. Coming from a diverse background as a business consultant, an educator, and an administrator, I will bring balanced viewpoints and fresh ideas to the Board of Trustees. Please vote for me, Joe Pandit, as Trustee.
