Education and Qualifications: As a teacher in Santa Cruz City Schools from 1968 to 1998, I observed a strong commitment from this community to the education and welfare of all our children. As a teacher I have always believed that all children can learn given the right instruction, that parents care deeply about their children and are the source of their strength of character, and that all citizens should be invested in the education and success of all students. We have a responsibility to provide an environment in which children are safe, nurtured and challenged.

I have had the opportunity to work on many education task forces and committees and to collaborate with community groups like the Cultural Council and the Volunteer Center. I have worked with other teachers, administrators and school board members on school improvement, high standards, and teacher training with support and accountability, both locally and statewide.

If elected, I promise to listen carefully to all points of view, evaluate the issue thoughtfully and decide based on the best interests of students given the facts. I believe in the dedication of the SCCS personnel and this community’s determination to prepare our children for the future.
