Martine Watkins
For Santa Cruz City Councilmember

Occupation: Education Programs Coordinator       Age: 36

The policy choices we make today shape our future. My husband and I are fortunate to be raising our two young daughters in Santa Cruz, my hometown. I am committed to bringing a new perspective to our community’s leadership.

From my Panetta Institute Master’s Degree in Public Policy, I know how to design policies that are transparent, informed by data, and crafted collaboratively.

For over a decade I’ve advised organizations that focus on helping children, women, and families succeed, including the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, Digital NEST, Dominican Hospital, the Child Care Planning Council, and the Commission for Prevention of Violence Against Women.

As your councilmember I will make sure our city is safe, economically vibrant, and sustainable.  I will enact policies that promote a healthy community, including:

Preserving our remarkable environment

Promoting safe neighborhoods, parks, and downtown

Ensuring good jobs and economic opportunity

Preparing the next generation to be our future workforce

Providing affordable housing and childcare for families

Prioritizing safety nets for the elderly

I will work tirelessly to find solutions by being inclusive, thoughtful, and committed to a better future for Santa Cruz. I’m prepared to serve as your city councilmember.

I would be honored to receive your vote.
